Dana & Rob Scott - 2024 GROSS Champions Neil & Laura Guanci - 2024 Net Champions
The fortieth annual INTERNATIONAL HUSBAND & WIFE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP was celebrated in style and splendor at the magnificent Casa de Campo Resort in the Dominican Republic during the week of February 20-26, 2024.
Casa de Campo still sets the standard as “The Greatest Winter Golf Resort in the Caribbean”! This ocean-front tropical vacation experience was highlighted by friendly golf competition. The spectacular collection of Pete Dye golf courses challenged us with a variety of water-fronted and ocean breeze affected golf holes … but the ocean vistas remained “unchallenged” as they soothed our souls and reminded us “We are not in Kansas anymore, Toto”! Over the forty Championship years, golfing couples from thirty-two states, Great Britain, Canada, Mexico, Trinidad, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico have competed for the Gross and Net Championships.
The Net Championship commenced in challenging Caribbean weather with plenty of sunshine and a “brisk breeze” on The Links course. Jill & Karl Burgess, The Villages, FL took the 1st rd lead with a score of 64. They Followed up with scores of 67 & 67 on Teeth and 67 (198 total) to tie with Laura & Neil Guanci, Henderson, NV (69-64-65). The Guancis won the tiebreaker to claim the 2024 Net Championship. Mary & Steve Luccia, Palm Harbor, FL earned the 2nd place trophy (the Burgesses won the Silver Gross trophy) and Weezer & Jack Gavin, North Wales, PA placed third. Bonnie & Neil Negrin, Marietta, GA won the Diamond Flight. Elise & Jim John, Blue Bell, PA, won the Emerald Flight. Patty & Glenn Camp, Southern Pines, NC won the Ruby Flight. Lucy & Dick Thomas, Stuart, FL, won the Sapphire Flight.
The Gross Championship was exciting with two teams tied going into the final hole. Dana & Rob Scott, Hockley, TX shot 77, 68 & 77 (222 total) to edge the Net Champions Laura & Neil Guanci, Henderson, NV by one shot (77-72-74). Jenny & Chris Colapietro, Yardley, PA shot 79-81-79=239 to earn the 2ndplace trophy. Andrea & Mickey Guidry, Baton Rouge, LA. finished in third place. Jill & Karl Burgess, The Villages, FL, won the Gross Silver Flight “Charles Cup” (75-80-81=236 total).
Bonnie & Neil Negrin, Marietta, GA, earned the “Smyth” Anniversary Award. Bev & Craig Miller, Boynton Beach, FL, won the “Cleverotty” Award. Kathy & Rob Walker, Delray Beach, FL were recognized with the “Walker” Cup. Barb & Bob Nowikowski, Stuart, FL, earned the coveted “Yarrington”Trophy.
